In Mrs. Cliff's P.E class, we are developing many different skills. There are many things we do in P.E, and it is all broken down into units. There is the swimming unit, gymnastics unit, basketball unit, frisbee unit, and much more. In those units, we gain a lot of different skills. Some of the stuff is very easy, but others are difficult. All these techniques will help us stay fit and skillful for the rest of our lives.
Basketball

My favorite unit in P.E would have to be this one: basketball. I absolutely love basketball and I really enjoyed this unit. We didn't really have time to go over steps and drills because this unit took place at the end of the school year. Since I already know a lot about basketball and we didn't go over basic basketball stuff, I didn't really learn anything major.
The first thing we would do during this unit was shoot around. We were in a group of 3, but some had 3 or more people. Our teacher would assign us to specific court to shoot around. Then after 2 minutes or more of practice, we would get back into our groups and be prepared for our games. For the rest of the period, we just played basketball games against each other. I really enjoyed this unit because it gave me more practice for basketball and it isn't a difficult thing to do.

Tennis

The tennis unit was one of the hardest unit in P.E. I think it was hard because we had to learn a lot of difficult things. But, it was good practice! I'm glad we did this unit because I always wanted to practice playing tennis even though I am not that good. In this unit, we learned and performed the different techniques and skills of tennis.
We learned a lot of different things in tennis. When we first started off, we learned how to hit properly and where to adjust our hands on the racket. If we hit with both hands, we have to move to the right and then swing. If we hit with the back of our hand, we would step to the left. Then we started practicing hitting on towels. After 2 weeks of hitting, our teacher assigned us with partners and we started throwing the ball and hitting it back and forth. That part was challenging because some people who hit the ball didn't expect it to go lower or higher than they expected. Towards the end of this unit, we had 4 choices: play a real tennis game, practice hitting against the wall, hitting back and forth with a partner, or getting the ball thrown and hitting it. I chose to hit back and forth with a partner because I felt like I wasn't good enough for the game but well enough to hit back and forth with a partner.

Jump rope

In this unit, we learned and performed different jump rope techniques. I have to admit, some of the techniques were easy to do, but others were very difficult. Not only did we learn different skills, but we also learned how to jump at the right pace. After getting use to the pace, we jumped at the same pace with a partner. Then we started to add different techniques to that. My partner and I were at a 110 beats rate. This unit was very active, but it was also kind of boring. But I think that jump rope is always a good practice.
What I learned from this unit is that jump rope needs to be done at a steady pace. There are different techniques and styles in jump rope. Some of the cool tricks we learned were the scissors, bell, skiier, and double jump. The "scissors" trick is when you move your legs back and forth while jumping. The skiier is when you move one leg at a time every time you jump. And the double jump is when you jump twice while jumping. There were many more techniques and tricks that we learned.

Swimming Strokes

For 4 weeks in P.E, we learned about different swimming strokes. Some of the strokes we learned were the breaststroke and backstroke. We also learned how to flutter kick and glide on our backs. Before this activity, I did not know how to swim, but from participating in this activity, I became a much better swimmer. I'm glad we had this swimming unit because I had more practice for swimming. The daily routine started with flutter kicking. By doing that, it helped us float when we swam. I'm glad I learned how to flutter kick because that helped me float. The backstroke and breaststroke were both difficult for me, but I still tried. For the backstroke, you had to float on your back and move your arms upward to move. For the breaststroke, you have to push your arms in front of you and kick your legs out, like a frog. On Fridays, we had free-swim. We were able to dive in from the diving board, play water polo, or just swim for fun.
This P.E unit is similar to when I first started riding my bike. Although this experience was almost 7 years ago, I still remember because it was very special to me. I didn't know how to ride a bike without the training wheels. I was getting frustrated because all of my friends were able to ride a bike, except me. So I pushed myself to practice everyday. I actually learned how to ride a bike, and eventually I had no problems at all. Hopefully, I will practice swimming more and become a very advanced swimmer. We didn't really use tools for swimming, but we mainly used noodles. The noodles helped us float and it was used for almost all of the strokes.
